Recruiting was not Tech's problem.

Tech's problem was coaching. Tech is in the coastal division and it's been horrible for the past few years.

I am not against recruiting rankings but I want people to avoid getting excited about a four star recruit who may never contribute. My analysis of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 VA top 25 recruits shows that three stars from the top 25 of VA are more likely to contribute than the four stars.

Recruiting rankings are mostly based on the number of offers a recruit has and the overall rankings of the programs offering. I would argue that there is a causal relationship between the annual top football programs and the recruiting rankings. A kid who gets offers from three top ten programs will be elevated in the recruiting rankings.

Coaching plays an important role in a team's success and there other factors. FSU had top-tier recruiting classes from 2015 to 2017 and they started to slide in 2017. Once they were no longer a top ten program, their recruiting rankings started dropping outside the top twenty. FSU experienced a lot of attrition so their lofty recruiting rankings were not accurate.
