Is that precedence is playing a big part in this in the form of the Men's basketball set up and the other divisions of college football. All of them have auto invites and with only ten in division, it seems pretty cut and dried that it is either 12 or 16.

So far, the hold up are the ACC, BIG, P12 votes. They want to hold the playoff to 8 with automatic bids for their conference but not for anyone else but the B12 and SEC. They want the committee to pick the three at large and are afraid they will be all SEC teams. I think that is a reasonable fear.

The G5 reps in the room say that the "Alliance" group proposal is DOA because it would instantly activate Anti-Trust Laws. So they say they will not vote yes on anything, leaving the whole thing in limbo.

I am not sure why they want it this way, but I think most of it is because we do not need to have a new format just yet. There are several years to go on the current format and ESPN has broadcast rights on it. That is also a sore point.
