He was following the Cam Newton blueprint. He's said this more than once..


Whether comparing himself to Cam is silly to some or not, it's how he saw himself.
It's a risk he wanted to take... he understood the pros/cons and he took the risk. That's the beautiful thing about life and free will. I don't fault the man for that at all. It makes "logical sense" if you believe in yourself and have a plan.
