I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet the 5yo will take it better than you expect.


The kid likely won't completely 'get it'. Maybe have it done first and tell her that the pooch was sick and really tired and went to sleep and didn't wake up. I waited 9 years between dogs, but with young kids, I could see bringing a new one into the house pretty quickly.
