Something I wish France (where I live now) had was in-home euthanasia.


When we lived in San Diego, we had the exact same situation with our yellow lab Winston. The vet told us the situation at the clinic, we took him home, got him some Five Guys, and then an incredibly comforting female vet tech came to our house and gave him a merciful end on his favorite bed with his head in hokieonceremoved’s lap. I contrast that with having to put down our 16-year old mini dachshund this summer in France in a cold, sterile clinic.

I have no idea what is appropriate to say or not say to a 5-year old about this but if you can, I strongly encourage you to see if the in-home route is a possibility. It’s going to be one of the worst days of your life but you owe it to the dog to try to make it as comfortable as possible.
