meant and the question was intended as food for thought. Let me explain further using Nebraska as an example. They have been circling the drain for decades now but, I do not believe it has nearly as much to do with the coaches they hired and fired as it does to do with their leadership. Their Board of Trustees allowed an idiot President and a grossly incompetent AD to start the swirl and perpetuated the problem by failing to identify the problem and fix it at its root cause which allowed the problem to continue to grow.

I am not saying Whit is an idiot but, I do believe he was an unseasoned hire that was not properly managed and supported. I think the same thing applies to CJF. The situation gets much more unclear the further up the food chain you go. Sands could just be a case of having a lot of higher priorities, and rightly so, on his plate. The BOV is more likely a reflection of the inherent weakness involved with political appointment processes. Firing Fuente may fix a symptom but, it might not necessarily fix the real problem. I am neither advocating for firing or retaining him. It is quite possible his situation is fatal at VT now but, IF they do not fix the root of the problem it will be Groundhog Day all over again just like at places like Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas A&M, FSU and Texas, all places with resources to buy their way out of one mistake after another. I do not believe VT has that same luxury.
