Even if P5 college football had a commissioner, there is a good chance

he/she would still be neutered/spayed by the 5 conferences because the commissioner still works for the 5 conferences. Not the other way around. You will probably be hard pressed to find too many examples, pro or college, where the commissioner ruled with complete autonomy over the members of the league/association. I suspect the quickest way a person can be fired as commissioner is to not do what your bosses (aka the owners or college presidents/ADs) tell you to do.
