Long: Is anyone else thinking VT is overcommercialized the football game

day experience, opting for style over substance?

A few observations from admittedly my only experience in Lane this year.
1. Selling beer doesn't improve the experience. Several extremely drunk kids and quite a lot of adults holding beer cans diminished the atmosphere. I just don't think beer adds anything to Lane.

2. The constant barrage of rap music, commercials, fan cams and other blather on the Jumbotron detracts from the game action, the experience of the game atmosphere, and makes one think VT is about the $$$ instead of Ws and shared fan experience. IMHO this type of commercialism doesn't add much to the gameday, but instead takes away and shows up VT's insatiable money grabbing. More Jon Lahser (sp) and less loud obnoxious "stuff" to fill the stadium.

3. It's part of a cultural epidemic of celebrating celebrity. Definitely think at some level, the posing of the players during introductions, the seemingly endless highlights and player adorification (that's a made up word) take away from the reality that these are 18-22 yr old athlete students who still need a job after college or after the pros. Focusing on the individual and the fleeting flame of fame won't do them any favors. And IMHO it take away from gameday experience.

Am I totally out of touch with the worldly culture? Ya betcha. Am I being unreasonable? Maybe. Happy to hear other commenters.
