If you walk the trail around the original lake perimeter, there are large

stands of native hemlock, oak, and other hardwoods... but it is the large Hemlocks that are noticeably dying off. Lots of old stumps abound, too. I am assuming the die-off has to do with the loss of the lake, effecting the water level and ground water saturation around the perimeter, to where the stands of trees are.
