We had the exact opposite experience. Everyone was extremely nice in Paris

I know next to no French. We were mostly in touristy areas, but the people couldn't have been nicer. Same for Aix en Provence. Even the couple of folks we 'talked' to that didn't know English at all were very accommodating.
