Yes, it is definitely new territory which could help explain why
the schools were slow to react and find themselves in the current situation with the SCOTUS ruling that student-athletes could make money from NIL contracts.
It may even help explain why the schools may be "slow to react" going forward because of the complexity of the issue (at least it isn't black and white) and the potential impact of any decision they make now (i.e. go left instead of right). For example, if the schools opt to go "pro" in football (meaning the players can earn a "salary" from the school), then there may be no going back for them if down the road they end up having regrets about the decision. Keep in mind this "pro league" would probably be a minor league compared to the NFL and even the CFL, so the salaries will probably be "small" (i.e. $50K or so) similar to what the salaries are for the pro softball league or pro lacrosse league in the US.
