I don't disagree with you fully. However, i'd imagine seeing how far

behind financially now is more information than we had back then and i'm not sure waiting 15 years for it to correct itself is going to be an option if ESPN calls the shots and they want this stuff to happen right now. Also, If the Big Ten wants to preserve all the AAU schools then pulling in Duke, UNC, Virginia, and GT gets you to 4. It would only take 6 teams wanting to go to the SEC to talk to those 4 before leaving and dissolving the conference out right unless I am wrong that it only takes 10 teams to do that. ESPN would then not even have to pay those 4 bottom teams that are being left out so it has somewhat of a benefit to them.

BIG
---------------------
DUKE
UNC
UVA
GT

SEC
---------------------
CLEMSON
FSU
MIAMI
VT
NC STATE
+1

That leaves 4 of Louisville, BC, Pittsburgh, Wake, and Syracuse who ESPN would no longer have to pay. I don't claim to have inside knowledge of the contract or anything of that nature and if i'm incorrect I would be glad to be corrected.
