1. We were coming off a decade and half in College Football where Miami and Florida State were the top "brands" in college football. They got more press than anything the SEC was putting out. This was to be the slam dunk of slam dunks. Who knew that Miami and Florida State would fall off the table like that? Any AD or school president not wanting to be part of that would be fired.

2. If we stay in the diminished Big East, there is no saying that we would get better and be in position to get a cool SEC invite over Mizzou a decade later. The dynamic would have changed, and likely not to our favor.

The SEC had the chance to take us and WVU in 2003 and didn't invite us. I do not regret the decision one iota.
