If we're going to look back, let's also take a look at


VT's 1980's image according to Bill Brill, and shared by tons in the ACC footprint.
Gene Corrigan
The first Big East vote against VT coming in for all sports
Donna Shalala's ACC expansion plan
Louisville's Metro campaign against VT
Independent status and 9-2 record in 1983, with no bowl
TV Revenue before 2005

In summary, it all sucked for VT for 40 years, in a big way. The ACC invitation to VT was a godsend. No other real longing for VT had ever occurred before except for the 1991 BE football deal. The league has made some mistakes since 2005, but VT joining certainly was not one of them.
