In my opinion we are moving towards a college football league (probably have been for a while) and conferences only really need to be maintained for all other sports.

But I think we end up at some sort of league that is either mostly outside of the NCAA or fully outside of it. I am not sure how many teams it will have. I can see some power 5 schools not making the cut. The SEC is protecting their own by adding OU and Texas. Lets face it there are SEC teams that would not make a 48 team or maybe even a 60 team league cut. But they will because the SEC will be the lead dog.

The Clemson's of the world don't need to worry. But other schools in the ACC do. and the problem with the ACC is that we won't be strong enough to demand all of our schools make the cut. The ACC will be cherry picked. SEC and BIG will drive it.
