It really is the best play for the ACC to survive and keep away poachers. Especially if the USC/UCLA speculation actually happens.

Gives ACC entry into new markets (depending on schools ) in potentially Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, California, Washington and Oregon. And of course the local WV.

The benefit comes from variety and numbers.
