If you think about it,

Is it in Notre Dame's best interest to be altruistic? I don't think it is and I am pretty sure Notre Dame doesn't think that way either. This is not the Best Friend Association. These conferences are businesses with hard dollars attached and reputations on the line. Being altruistic is nice when the cost is minor, diving into a conference to try and save it from its own bad management is a lot to ask any school. Notre Dame is full of smart, brilliant, ambitious thinkers, if they lost the Olympic Sport tie in with the ACC they would figure something else out.
