Is that the ACC doesn’t prepare us for national-level success the way other sports do.

ACC is infinitely better than it used to be, but still not top tier. And we can always supplement with quality OOC games. No offense or negative thoughts at all - I loved this years run as much as anyone and think we’ve achieved staying power, at least in the sense of perennial tourney team. And hey, Marshall won men’s soccer, so once you get there, anything can happen.

Contrast that, however, with soccer, lacrosse, bball - ACC prepares us night in and night out. If you can make it though that gauntlet, you can do the same in the tourney (obviously a little luck never hurts). You get good OOC/tournament competition in wrestling also, where we’ve had sustained top-10 success. And then you have a track and field where 3 individuals can win you an indoor title (not close now, but could flip quickly).
