I actually have a somewhat positive DMV tale
My son goes to school in W PA. He turned 21 in March and went to buy a single beer (he's an athlete - does not usually drink). The guy at the beer distributor said "your license is expired." It had actually expired a year earlier. Ugh. So he goes online, and if you are over 365 days expired, you can't renew online. He and my wife call DMV and beg covid and every other excuse. They say he will have to do the vision, written, and driving test again. Then wife hears they are responsive on Facebook DM, so both of them try that. Son gets the middle finger, but wife is told to make an appt for the whole shebang but also make an earlier appt for a renewal. He goes there for the renewal, hands over the form and documentation for Real ID, the woman looks at everything, takes it back, comes back and tells him its over a year expired, he says "yep", she goes back, somebody else looks at the paperwork, she comes back, hands him a form and tells him to smile for the camera. I guess they gave him some grace. It was a huge relief.
