There's a reason it was a 9-0 vote. The NCAA amateur model only existed because it went unchallenged. It was never constitutional. The money finally got big enough for the challenge to be made. That and the emergence of individual revenue streams via social media which really changes the game.

What's not to say that the back-up left guard uses his player status to make a presence on youtube and gets a large following because of his personality or entertainment skills?

It's not just football and basketball players either. And not just men. There will be revenue streams for women. Lots of folks have been watching softball. It beat the NHL in ratings. It's not just about t-shirts and endorsements, although those will play a part of course.

The real question will be, why does the NCAA exist? Seems to me it will be stripped down to governance over the game rules and tournaments only. That is, if the conferences decide they want them to still. Maybe they won't. We'll see.
