In Dale Solomon's freshman year (1978-79), Virginia Tech played UNC at the Charlotte Coliseum on Feb. 3, 1979 and lost 92-80 in overtime.

That was the same year VT won the Metro Conference Tournament after going 4-6 (4th place out of 7 teams) in the conference.
