I actually got threatened with that as an agent was offering to sell my...

house for a reduced rate. That told me she knew she could sell it with zero effort. I sold it in the first week at asking price and this was prior to the information that is available on zillow and elsewhere.

Realtors overplayed the scarcity of information of "comps" etc. and cowed homeowners into signing away 6% of the value of their house, but (in most cases) they do not deliver that amount of value (especially with higher prices becoming the norm). Do realtors really do $30K worth of work for a $500K home? No way.

I am not saying that I will never use an agent again - I might. I did use one to sell a condo in Va Beach. The first one was awful. The second one earned every dollar I paid her upon closing.
