Was this at the Greensboro Coliseum?
If so, I may have randomly been there on the same day, but not for the show. I have a distinct childhood memory of stopping at an arena on our way home from a road trip. I don't remember where we were traveling to/from, or why we randomly stopped at an arena other than our of sheer curiosity, but I know it was either Hampton Roads or Greensboro. We wandered inside and had a look around and used the facilities, and as we were leaving, another kid who was there ran up to us and yelled something completely unintelligible as far as I was concerned. I indicated that I didn't understand him, and he frantically repeated himself several times: "heymanstingsousside!"
Me: "Huh? It stinks outside?"
Kid: "Nomanstingsousside!"
Me: ????
Kid: STINGSOUSSIDE!!
I literally had no idea what in the hell this kid was trying to tell me, but he was seriously excited about whatever it was. Finally my dad figured it out: "Oh! You mean Sting - the wrestler - is here, and he's outside?"
Kid: Yeah man! Stingsousside!
I don't know why, but this encounter still cracks me up every time I think about it. As a non-wrestling-fan, I didn't even know who Sting was at the time. But this kid was clearly having an out of body experience about it. Who knows if this was the same event that you attended, but your post reminded me of this.
