As soon as remote learning popped up in spring, and was shown to be more effective than people thought (I'm not saying it is effective as it needs to be, or can't be approved), teachers started wondering if this would be a means to reduce teachers in systems, or at least require different kinds of teachers. The union(s) were paying attention. They were on CNN almost immediately stating how remote learning is a dissservice to kids. So the system itself isn't rewarded for successful remote learning, even if the health of the kids (and teachers) would be. Add to that the external environment and the "kids need to be in school" crowd, and doing the right thing, the thing that would avid all this uncertainty, is very difficult.
