Never underestimate the enmity between the Big Ten and ND

There is 100 years of bad blood between the two.

All the Big Ten has to offer ND is more TV money, geography and local opponents.

You may be thinking "Those things are what every program wants."

ND is likely the only school (pre-Covid) that wants the opposite of a regional conference of local opponents, it wants to play all over the country.

It wants exposure up and down the East Coast, in the South and out West.

More TV money would work if ND only cared about money, like countless critics have (wrongly) said about ND for decades.

That doesn't work. ND and the Big Ten is a bad fit.

Golddomer hit upon most of the other factors that cause ND to recoil at the idea of Big Ten membership.

Besides, many ND fans think that the Big Ten wants ND to join merely to control and to quash its program.

They think the Big Ten would move ND to the Western Division, a Frozen Tundra of Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, etc..

That would be the worst place for ND football to end up.
