I find it funny we have such high value for human life

When it comes to Covid and may are willing to shut everything down to protect those at risk. But where is the moral outrage when we lead the world in drug overdose deaths? We allow 60% of our kids under the age of 16 to be obese. We eliminate phys Ed because it singles out the obese kids. As a result we punish the rest who want physical activity (including some of those obese kids). We serve our society 1500 calorie fast food meals as a lifestyle. Check out the ads on TV. Of course we also lead the world in abortions. If you are a black teen in Chicago you have over a 50% chance of having a family member or yourself involved in a shooting. Where’s the “let shut it down” plan there? All life is important. But I don’t see much moral outrage over those issues.

Now let’s head off the “shut it down until the vaccine arrives” notion. According to the WSJ yesterday, recent estimates show 100 million Americans would be deemed essential and be first in line for vaccines.

Want to know how long it would take to successfully deliver 100 million vaccines once fully approved - at least 18 months maybe 2 years and that’s if everything goes well. The rest of the 200 million plus Americans are further back in line.

I haven’t been guaranteed anything when it comes to life span. And I don’t want my kids or you to pay for extending it either through my healthcare bills or shutting the economy down to allow me to get a vaccine before we all resume our lives. I make my own decisions and should bear the brunt or benefits thereof.

That doesn’t mean I don’t value human life. We are all in control of our own health decisions. And I don’t want you or anyone else to suffer because of mine.

If we are going to shriek in horror at the thought of an 80 year old dying from Covid but allow 8 year olds to be obese society is being a bit hypocritical.
