But you know what. I will give it a go verbally.

Let’s say Lars was born in Stockholm about 80 years ago. He was good Swede. Stayed out of fights, ice skated all winter. Ate low fat Swedish meatballs in moderation. Played soccer and refrained from risky activities. At the time he was born, average life expectancy for a Swedish man was 71 years. Due to improvements in healthcare, Sweden was able to extend the life of many citizens. Now the country’s average life expectancy for a male is 81 years of age! Cheers all around.

But in 2020 a mean corona virus sweeps the globe. Some countries shut their economies down and make everyone stay at home. To quell the anger the US prints $3 trillion in “free” money. Everybody was so happy to have money the leaders get together to find more free money to hand out.

Meanwhile in Sweden, Lars and the other village elders say the hell with that. They tell those at the highest risk to stay home. You have done a lot for our glorious country we will help you out. But the rest of you - get to work. Enjoy life. Take precautions. Do what you can to stay healthy and protect others as well.

Lar’s son, Olath continues to work to support his family. Work has value so he doesn’t have time to stay home and drink all day. His kids stay in school. Learn math, science and other valuable skills. They in the future will add value to society.

Lars wants to have a big blowout for his 80th birthday party. However he decided it is not in his best interest to have 50 folks over for a large mass gathering. He has socially distanced, worn masks and washed his hands diligently. He has taken personal responsibility.

However he fears he may contract Covid. At his age this could be a real problem. The Swedish president calls him at home one day and makes a campaign promise. “I will shut down the whole economy for you. Your life really matters.” It will only cost his grandchildren 3 trillion dollars.

Lars it so grateful but decides the cost to society of reducing his Corona risk isn’t with it. Even if he gets Corona it isn’t a given he will die. And if he does, he will pass at 80 years of age instead of 81.

Years later Sweden is eternally grateful for Lar’s willingness to take responsibility for his own health and not make his grandchildren bear the cost of 3 trillion dollars. This allows them to have good educations, infrastructure and economic growth. Annually they celebrate Lars is Our Hero Day with ice skating and a moderate portion of Swedish meatballs.
