Part of that shaving is running trials in parallel.

That is 100% possible by simply throwing more money at the problem and doesn't impact the actual testing.

Additionally, the current leader, Chadox out of Oxford, actually has been in development for many years. It was started as a MERS vaccine and was tweaked to target the Covid spike. If efficacy is proven on this, I'll be in line to get it day 1.

Lastly, the mRNA tech, if it proves successful, will destroy the conventional wisdom for vaccine timelines. If successful, it's likely that viral pandemics will be a thing of the past.
