Help!
Yesterday, we had a thunder storm roll through. I was on the desk top computer at the time. Computer and monitor were plugged into a battery back/surge protector.
Heard a snap, which was loud enough to startle me. Monitor went off, along with the computer. Never could get the monitor to come back on. Computer did come back on, at least the light on the button comes on.
I hooked up a spare monitor using the HDMI port on the desk top. There is only one. Monitor says there is no signal. Could the HDMI port on the desk top be fried?
If it is fried, how can I retrieve info from the HD on the desk top?
PS: The HDMI ports on my 50" Sony TV also appear to be fried. TV was off, but not unplugged from the wall. Now, the TV is not receiving any signal from the cable box via the HDMI port. I tried different HDMI ports on the TV, but no joy. Tried playing a DVD in the Blu-Ray player, still no joy.
Had a Comcast tech on line walk us through some steps to try to make it work, or figure out why it's not working. Still no joy.
I even took the old set top back to Comcast and got a new one. That one doesn't supply a signal to the TV either.
What's interesting about the TV, a 55" Sony Bavaria, is the "computer" side is fine. It will accept streaming programs, including You Tube TV. I signed up to that for a 7 day free trial.
