I agree with your first paragraph...

...which is kind of the point I'm trying to make: people should be allowed to go outside. I heard a report recently that there has been almost zero evidence of virus transmission in outdoor settings. So I think the virus is not likely to spread while people are outdoors, regardless of what season it is. I hope that the summer heat and humidity will significantly quell the spread in general, but I think people should have been allowed to make use of public parks and recreation areas this entire time. I don't understand why beaches, national parks, trails, etc. continue to be closed.

As for the lockdowns and treatments, I do agree that there are developments being made that make the prognosis of recovery much better. And I think the initial lockdowns were warranted to stop the initial spike and to let the medical community brace for what was coming, learn more about the virus, and begin to develop effective therapies. But I think we've achieved all of those goals, and if the data coming out of Sweden suggest that they are not really all that much worse off and are ahead of us in developing herd immunity while not damaging their economy as much, then I think we should be taking a hard look at what we're doing.

I respect everyone's opinion. I just feel that we should all be afforded the ability to make our own decisions about how to proceed (within reason - obviously huge gatherings, sports stadiums, etc. should continue to be closed for the time being).
