In theory, I do agree with what you say

However, I am not sure it will play out like that for all schools. The reason I say that is because I could see a school with a truly "urban campus" or with a "commuter school" profile decide to play sports before the students are allowed back on "campus." For a school like GMU or VCU (example purposes only), it may not matter if the rest of the students are back, particularly if no one can attend the games, because the school really didn't have a "campus" prior to the pandemic.

For schools with a true campus (i.e. UVA, VT, etc.), it allows the schools to maintain social distancing, which reduces the risk for lawsuits, because the school can control who is allowed on campus. At the same time, if the school is "hurting" financially, then the school could receive some financial relief via its network contracts. At least I am assuming that schools are receiving no money from the networks or radio during this pandemic. As far as the NCAA goes, if it doesn't endorse the idea of schools playing sports again, then does it have the authority to prevent the schools from forming a new association, even if it is only temporary, until the NCAA gives the green light so schools can resume activities?
