Cases have been doubling about every 3 days in the US for a month


That's basically the definition of exponential.

Obviously, that kind of growth rate is unsustainable because in the US that would imply 100,000,000 million infections by end of April, and a week after that, more people would be infected in the US than actually exist, so we should see a bend in the curve very soon.

Basically anything with an R0 of >1 is exponential. Covid19 has been exponentially spreading worldwide for 3 months.

The real curve is sigmoidal (S-shaped). The first half of that is exponential which is what we've been seeing since it started.
