It has to be "lifestyle" change.


Once you're there:

Find a diet you can live with (i.e. transiting into a more healthy diet), and make that the "new normal." You don't have to completely do away with the unhealthy stuff you love to eat, just cut down on the times you eat it. Maybe eat "bad" one day a week?

The second leg to stand on is exercise. Stay active! Keep walking the dog! Go to the gym! Mow the lawn. Ride a bicycle. Ensure "moving" is a part of your life. You don't have to kill yourself like you did as a kid, but just move every day.
