The listing agent doesn’t get to keep that full 6%. Roughly half (varies by state) goes to the buyer’s agent. If your realtor works for a large brokerage they also pay a split to the brokerage, which can vary from 10% to 50% of their gross commission.

Doesn’t change the fact that you’re stuck paying 6%, but they may not be making nearly what you think.
