My Mom would not allow me to wear blue jeans to school ....

All the way through high school. It was either cords or khakis. When I got to VT one of the first things I did was buy a pair of jeans & wear them every day.
Mom grew up during the Great Depression in rural Nebraska & Idaho. The only people who wore denim then were poor farm workers & cowboys. Denim was considered a sign of poverty & she wouldn't have any of her kids seen in them.
