I've seen an argument that Smokey Bear has done more harm than good


Forests actually need an occasional...mild...forest fire.

But with all our anti-wildfire campaigns we get far fewer wildfires. They also tend to be more intense. Instead of just burning off the undergrowth, leaving the trees intact, and re-fertilizing the ground, wildfires today just destroy everything.
