I have to admit that this has been somewhat challenging from a personal point of view, but I also understand it’s all about results. Coaching can be a tough business.

Thanks to a couple of Hokie Club fund raising auctions, my wife and I did get to know Scot and his staff pretty well. We accompanied the team on two bus trips to Liberty and was even “Coach for a Day” last season (a doubleheader sweep of the Hoos I might add). Scot ALWAYS treated us like family and made us feel like we were special. I saw someone who truly cared for his players and did things the right way. Candidly, I will always consider him a friend.

I sent him a note the day he was let go and his gracious response was to “support the new staff like you did us.” I think that speaks volumes about him. He was, and is, a true Hokie through and through. I will always be appreciative of the 23 years he spent building the VT program from scratch.

Hopefully, Coach A’Mour will be an AWESOME hire – he certainly has an impressive background. I also thought his comments about Scot showed a tremendous amount of class and I'm sure Scot appreciates them: “Scot Thomas built this program from the ground up, and I admired the tradition he established at Tech from afar. Our objective will be to uphold the foundation of consistent success and the winning culture that Scot instilled in the program, while bringing some new concepts to the team, as we start this new chapter for Tech softball.”

Bottom line, I wish both Coach A'Mour and Coach Thomas nothing but the best in their future endeavors. I want both of them to be hugely successful.
