That’s my point; for years we’ve had one “ace” and no pitching depth
We get two highly regarded pitchers, widely regarded as best in VA who had epic duels vs each other in HS, and we don’t use EITHER of them in 2 postseason games. That should do wonders for building their confidence and experience, right!? How do you build depth? Let them get experience in a tough spot (you can say it was do or die but after this season who expected anything from postseason? What’d we have to lose? Besides a game we ended up losing anyway? We’d have to win TWO more games in 2 days. Was Eberle going to pitch 4 straight days and win them all??
Thomas shouldn’t be let go just due to this decision BUT this decision is symptomatic of the program’s shortcomings for many years now. Because he sticks with an ace too long, we’ve never developed 2-3 “aces” at the same time
