It starts out this way at my house

Daughter says she will do her own taxes. She's an adult. She's independent. She bring all the papers to my house and will use the copy of TurboTax on my main desktop.

Then after 5 minutes of us starting a return together, she goes out to the Den. He Mom wants to show her some movie or video she just saw. They start watching together. Snacks emerge from the kitchen. And I've got an open tax return on my computer.

So I do them. They're not hard. And I force her to go through the finished return so she understands every number and knows the difference between a credit and a deduction. And she swears next year she will do it by herself.

Now that she's quoted in this story, I will underline the paragraph and send it to her next year. But honestly, I like still being needed. When the day comes she doesn't ask for help, I won't like it. I'll feel pretty old....
