Until 2 weeks ago I would say it would be no problem.

I've done this many times with my wife. I just book on the Marriott site and use my credit card on file and at check in they usually just ask if she wants to use the credit card on file. Allows me to get the 5x bonus points for charges at Marriott. Wife and daughter went to NYC 2 weeks ago and stayed at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. They would ABSOLUTELY not allow it and desk clerk and supervisor were quite rude about the whole thing (surprising given my platinum status). I suppose they are just protecting themselves from fraud. However I did still receive rewards credit for the stay so I can't complain.
