Here's my take

At my house, we were paying $200+/month for a Verizon Fios bundle for TV, internet, and phone. Included in that price was equipment "rental", DVR, etc. Between me and the rest of the fam, we watch some of the sports networks, mostly for VT football and basketball, a few of the local big four channels, and a few random shows occasionally on TNT, FX, and the like. In addition to that, we subscribe to Netflix and have an Amazon Prime account, which gives you access to all of the Amazon streaming content.

I downgraded to an internet-only package with Verizon when my 2-year contract was up for $60/month. I keep my Netflix and Amazon Prime. I am now subscribing to Hulu Live TV, which gives me all of the channels I used to watch on traditional cable for $40/month. This includes 50 hours of DVR space for any shows, including live sports events. I have the capability of adding HBO, Showtime, etc. for extra $$ if I so please. Hulu Live TV works just live traditional cable, in that you can browse whats on live TV on all channels, including three of my local big four channels (live ABC is not available at this moment). I also get access to the Hulu library of past episodes and the entire Seinfeld series.

So after all is said and done, I save over $100/month for basically the same service plus additional access to the Hulu library. And it's all non-binding. If I don't like it for whatever reason or I find that I'm not watching it enough to justify the $40/month, I can cancel at any time. Or if traditional cable becomes a more cost effective way to watch what I want, I just switch back.

In addition, I stream all of these services from an Amazon Fire Stick, so they are all centrally located in one spot. Just download the Netflix and Hulu apps, and they're all right there. No need to change inputs on your TV or anything. If I want to watch my live local news, just click on the Hulu app and tune to that station. If I want to binge watch a series on Netflix, same thing - open the Netflix app, sit back and binge!
