Anyone ever had carpal tunnel syndrome on wrist/thumb?

I suspect I do, and heading to the doc in a couple weeks to confirm. Co-worker said recovery could require 2-4 weeks off from work! Huh? Not sure I understand how that could possibly be true....especially if the hand is placed in an immovable brace. I'm a financial analyst....so, other than typing with only one hand and mashing calculator keys with the un-favored hand, I don't see what benefit being home (vice work) could provide. I'm interested in hearing what others have experienced. TIA.
