Re: Question about your point on potential pods
That was just an example. My only speculation on future realingment are these:
1) Texas ends up in either the SEC or the ACC. This is because of the LHN. Being owned by ESPN and going several years past the Big 12 media contracts; I suspect that ESPN will make UT go to either SEC or ACC with SEC being more likely.
2) Conferences will be limited to 16 teams. This is because it is far better to have 4 team pods than 5. 5 team pods will result in a 9 game conference schedule. A 4 team pod can result in a 7 game conference schedule with the possibility of an eighth rival game.
3) I expect the conferences to have finals and a championship game leading up to the 3 games for the national title. Thus, to make the playoffs you only need to beat out your 3 pod mates. Makes for a good sell to the universities and then make money on all of the playoff game. If you want to keep the bowl games going; how about the second place teams playing in "futures" game with red shirt players and excluding those who have finished their eligibility at the end of the regular season. You will need these games to provide the financial incentives for the realignment to occur.
