It is possible these super conferences are nothing more than
a means to an end. If there is a group of DI schools that either want to form their own association or at the very least form their own NCAA division level, then they may realize it isn't possible given the current political climate. One possible way to overcome politics is to create a gap between the "haves" and the "have nots." Once the gap becomes wide enough, then the "haves" can get what they want without fear of political involvement.
Once the group has its own association/division level, then the conferences could break up into smaller and more manageable conferences. The schools may not even worry about the TV contracts because they decide it is in the group's best interest to pool their resources. They may not even worry about antitrust laws because Congress either amends the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 (which gave the NFL antitrust exemption) or Congress passing a new law giving collegiate athletics the same antitrust exemption as given to the NFL.
