B-street can attest to this effect in WV. There are not always jobs.


When I left the 304 in 2002, WV was producing more coal than at the industry's arguable peak in the 1950's. However, it was employing fewer miners. That's because it takes fewer people to run the machine that can out-perform several manual laborers. Those jobs never came back, and it serves as an example of what you're looking at more broadly 25 years from now. Hopefully I'll be retired by that point.
