That guy was scum and unethical. He/the company told me in November I'd be laid off as of March 31 -- giving me plenty of time to finish up projects and set up a plan for the authors I was working with. And find another job.

Then Christmas Eve, he suggests that maybe I want to take the six weeks of annual leave I've accrued and use that from mid-February through March 31 so they don't have to pay me for it. I say "No, I'd prefer to get that nice check after March 31.

First day after the holidays I get laid off. Any state but VA, a lawyer told me, I'd have a pretty good claim for unlawful dismissal, since I was retaliated against for protesting an illegal request to force me to use leave, but VA's laws and courts are highly tilted toward companies.

Yeah, that guy is scum. And I made sure all my authors knew about it afterwards.
