You clearly haven't been around long enough....


to have any real perspective on where VT has come from and how that fits in to what they have now and what they deserve. Could things be better? Absolutely. Could things be worse? Absolutely and, in fact, they have been much worse before. While money and payouts are certainly an integral piece of operating a college athletic department, the rapidly changing landscape of college athletics due to TV, Title IX and a host of other factors creates the real likelihood that the model will be completely different within the next decade and the real trick is to position the school to take maximum advantage of where things are going. I believe VT has the leadership to evaluate where that should be.

As far as Maryland and what they are really getting, it is too early to say with any real certainty. It will be 2021 or after before those results are clear. Dr. Loh may be hailed as a visionary that led Maryland to the promised land or he could be characterized as the guy who built himself a mansion while cutting multiple sports programs and in the end left Maryland with no traditions and no natural rivalries and a bank account far short of what he promised.

In the end, my money is on VT, Dr. Sands and Whit Babcock to get it right with a much greater probability than MD, Loh and Anderson.
