BC is going through some tough times right now in the 2 revenue sports. Problems began the day that BC moved to the ACC and forced some long time fans out with first time Seat Licensing for both sports. Next problem was former AD DeFillippo firing Jagodzinski and hiring longtime friend Spaziani as HC. He also fired all-time winningest coach Skinner in basketball and hired Steve Donahue from Cornell, who couldn't recruit ACC Athletes into the program. Defillippo retires, in comes Brad Bates, who has been a puppet for President Father Leahy, who is meddling into athletics when he has no business doing so. Bates fires both Spaziani and Donahue, and replaces them with Addazio and Jim Christian.......so a series of bad hires.
Fans are begging the school to fire Addazio, who was extended after his 2nd year because he caught lightning in a bottle with 5th year QB Murphy from Florida. In years 3 and 4, his teams have regressed mightily, recruiting has tanked, and for being a OL coach, the offense is 128 of 128 in FBS.
Basketball lost its opener to Nicholls State, and fans are starting to see the same affects in this sport as well. One thing Christian has done in hoops is bring in some athletes, but the best players are freshmen and sophomores, so the hope is this season will show some kind of improvement as the year goes on.
I get why BC is getting bad press. 1-14 in last 15 ACC Football games, 0-18 in last 18 ACC Hoops games. I would hope it's just a cycle thing which every school goes through, but obviously this is a worst cycle then most can remember. Despite all this, BC has achieved things in their 12 years in the ACC that many schools have not. Football despite the swoon, has more wins overall than NC State, Wake, UVA, Duke, and are just below a middle tier of teams like Miami, UNC in overall Ws in the time period. Have reached 2 ACC Championship Games in Football (only FSU and Clemson have more from Atlantic.....VT/GT have more from Coastal), reached a ACC Basketball Title Game, went to Elite 16 in hoops, Elite 8 in Men's Soccer, Final 4 in Women's Soccer, Super Regional in Baseball, so the school can compete at a National Level in Sports.
Going forward........my hope would be a new AD (Bates is in the final year of his contract), new FB Coach, an athletics subcommittee that acts like a Board of Directors/Trustees over sports, a new school president that supports athletics, and a reduction of school sponsored sports.
