I applied for a job with Orvis designing fly fishing reels and other equipment. I made it through the early screening process and actually spoke to their head of engineering. Would have had to move to Vermont and would have had to travel 20+ weeks a year. That travel included going to fly fishing shows across the country and hawking Orvis products while fishing with top guides across the country. It would have been a hard life...

In the end I didn't have enough retail / consumer design experience so they went another direction. Their new reel the guy they hired instead of me costs ~$500. I designed a reel in about 3 hours as part of my application... I think mine looked better and would have had a bit more mass appeal.
