I watched a Nat'l Geographic episode in my front yard last week.

Owl swooped down and tried to take a squirrel! There was a big fight and the squirrel got away. Lots of feathers left behind.

The squirrel was obviously injured though because he was crying. Sad. It was with it's partner squirrel and they both ran up a tree, the injured one only getting about 10 feet off the ground before stopping. I don't think it could get up any higher. It continued to cry for quite some time. I walked out there to take a look and the squirrel, although over my head didn't move. The partner came down the tree and actually moved over top the injured squirrel to protect it. Very interesting (and sad).

I haven't found any dead squirrels in my yard though, so maybe he recuperated.
